Boy Scout Conservation Project

Image result for people performing conservation projectsRight now I am working on a conservation project here in North Carolina. For the Camping merit badge, I need to do something that helps preserve the enviroment. I went to a horse ranch in Wyoming to ask, and they said projects like:
  • Keeping the paths from eroding.
  • Hauling trees out of the horse paths.
  • Loading dead wood from a field.
  • Taking a survey of animals.
  • Re-inrtoducing wild animals.
Here in North Carolina, I found a few things I could do. A lot I can do near here, and one is even in the field behind us.
  • Hauling all of the missed lumber from the field.
  • Planting new trees.
When people mess with the enviroment, we are destroying what has been given to us. As soon as soil has eroded, it would take about five hundred years for the ground to make more soil. That one inch of soil can be washed away in one second by a storm or by people treading on the ground too much. Wild animals are vital to this world too. When one species has been wiped out, it is gone.

Conservation means these things:
  • Preserving wildlife.
  • Prevention of deterioration.
  • Restoration of the Natural Enviroment.

My Nature Walk

This morning, I went on a little nature walk with my family. The walk took us around a retention pond, down Strawberry rd, and into some thick brush. There were coniferous and deciduous trees, ferns and evergreen trees, and red vine flowers. Around and in the retention pond, there were frogs, duckweed, tadpoles, fish, and reeds. In the field there were rabbits, robins, funnel web spider.
